Hello, I am Sophie
I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Berlin, Germany.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Germany wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complex than anticipated.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines settled in. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Autumn Field Lab
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to close that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Germany.
What This Site Provides (And Does Not)
This site offers:
- Real-world experience from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is NOT:
- Not a tourism board resource
- A sponsored review site
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophie
